Video slot — one orchard year in 60s, silent loop

¡Qué Linda!

We believe premium
starts long before
harvest.

Everyone else in this business begins the story in September, with a photograph of a full bin. Ours begins in April, with a decision nobody photographs.

One orchard year

Better fruit starts with better thinking.

Six moments decide what ends up in the box. Only one of them involves picking.

April · Bloom

This is where our story starts.

Rootstock, spacing, pollination, frost. Five months before anyone takes a photograph of an apple, the ceiling on how good it can be has already been set.

May–June · Thinning

Taking fruit off is how you get better fruit.

It is counter-intuitive and it costs money in the moment: you walk the rows and remove perfectly good young apples so the ones that stay have somewhere to put their sugar. Quality is never accidental — it is subtracted.

July–August · Ripening

The discipline of waiting.

There is always a reason to pick early — weather, labour, a buyer's calendar. Leaving fruit on the tree an extra week is a decision somebody has to be willing to defend.

September · Picking

Where everyone else's website begins.

This is the photograph the whole industry uses: a full bin, good light, a satisfied face. It is a fine photograph. It is also the last five percent of the work, and by the time it is taken every decision that mattered has been made.

October · Storing & packing

Every apple has purpose.

Fresh grade goes to retail. What misses fresh goes to our sister company Crunch Pak as slices rather than to the discount pile. Two doors out of the same bin, both of them paying.

Year-round · Shipping

Better connected from orchard to table.

Assured supply is not a slogan, it is a storage plan and a phone that gets answered in February. And when the season settles up, growers deserve more value than the industry habitually returns.

Whichever end of the season you live at.

Growers care about April. Buyers care about February. We are the part in between that has to be good at both.

We believe…

  • growers deserve more value
  • premium should mean something
  • every apple has purpose
  • partnerships matter
  • quality is never accidental
